Sabres' Fasching turning up the offense with University of Minnesota

By John Vogl

It hasn't taken Hudson Fasching long to make an impact at the University of Minnesota.

The freshman right winger, who was acquired by the Sabres in a trade with Los Angeles this afternoon, is the third-leading scorer for the Gophers with 27 points in 31 games. Playing on the first line for the top-ranked team in the NCAA, Fasching has six goals in the last 10 games to up his season total to 12.

Fasching, 18, is a big forward at 6-foot-2, 207 pounds. The Minnesota native played well for the United States at the world juniors, scoring twice and adding two assists in five games.

Fasching has a touching family story, which was chronicled three years ago by ESPN.

"Excited to officially be a part of the Buffalo Sabres organization!" Fasching wrote on his Twitter account.
