Sabres' Hodgson scores twice to up world championship-leading total to six

By John Vogl

Cody Hodgson is surprised to see himself at the top of the world championship goal list. The Sabres are surely pleased to see it.

The Buffalo forward scored two more times for Canada today in a 6-1 victory over Italy at the world championships. Hodgson, who had a hat trick Wednesday, has six goals through five games.

"I wouldn’t have expected that coming into it, but the most important games are the ones coming up," Hodgson said according to IIHF.com.

Hodgson, who was shifted from center to wing by the Sabres, has been taking some faceoffs but is primarily playing wing alongside Toronto's Nazem Kadri and Washington's Troy Brouwer.

"I’m playing with some good wingers right now," Hodgson said in Belarus. "It seems like we’re generating a lot of chances as a line and on the power play. Hopefully, it continues."
