As expected, no one else wanted Ville Leino's contract, either.
The forward, placed on waivers Tuesday by the Sabres for the purposes of a compliance buyout, cleared waivers at noon today. Buffalo can now buy out the remaining three seasons of Leino's six-year, $27 million contract.
Leino will get $7.333 million from the Sabres over the next six years, but his annual $4.5 million cap hit is gone from the team's salary chart. Buffalo, which is an estimated $18 million under the salary cap floor for next season, needs to find more big contracts by opening night to comply with the collective bargaining agreement.
