Report: Panthers get 'fair offer' for No. 1 overall draft pick

By John Vogl

Only one team will pick ahead of the Sabres at the NHL Draft this month. Buffalo still can't be sure who that team will be.

Florida, which owns the No. 1 overall pick, has received a "fair offer" for the selection, General Manager Dale Tallon told the Toronto Star today. The Panthers have been shopping the pick and accepting offers.

Florida won the draft lottery, bumping the last-place Sabres to the second overall selection. The Panthers would like at least one NHL defenseman in any deal for their draft pick.

The Panthers, who have a coach opening, have talked with recently fired Pittsburgh bench boss Dan Byslma about the position, according to multiple reports.
