Amerks making return to Spengler Cup, prestigious Swiss tournament

The Rochester Americans will head to Switzerland next season to compete in the prestigious Spengler Cup, a four-team tournament that featured Jason Pominville- and Jochen Hecht-led Adler Mannheim this season.

The Amerks competed in the tournament in 1996 and are the only professional hockey team from North America to take part.

"The Rochester Americans are extremely honored to have been selected to play in the 2013 Spengler Cup and represent the American Hockey League,” Americans and Sabres President Ted Black said in a statement. “This is a truly unique opportunity that will provide an incredibly valuable experience for our players.
