After two years of trying, the Teach for America program may be coming to Buffalo. As noted in today's story, members of the Buffalo school board have generally expressed support for the program as a way to bring in well-qualified teachers in hard-to-fill teaching assignments. But numerous concerns have been raised by the Buffalo Teachers Federation and its teachers about the lack of experience and training that corps members receive.
The resolution, being introduced by board member Theresa Harris-Tigg, is below. It will be taken up by the board for discussion Wednesday, and a vote is expected. Teach for America has made two presentations to the school board in committee and, at its last regular meeting, the board voted unanimously to move forward with negotiations with the national organization.
Below is the resolution to be discussed Wednesday. The school board will meet at 5:30 pm Wednesday in the auditorium of Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, 450 Masten Ave.
