This Day in Buffalo Sports History

Nov. 2, 1986 -- Jim Thorpe, an occasional Buffalo resident, had a little success on the PGA Tour. He won three tournaments in all -- and two of them were in back-to-back years.

Today marks the anniversary of Thorpe's second straight win at the Seiko/Tucson Match Play Championship. He also won the Milwaukee Open the year before.

Thorpe has carved out a good career in golf. He finished in the top 10 of a couple of U.S. Opens, and won more than 10 events on the Champions Tour (including a major - the Countrywide Tradition - in 2002).
