This Day in Buffalo Sports History: Good morning!

February 20, 1998 -- The Buffalo Blizzard never had a better morning, or day, at least in terms of attendance on this date.

It was School Day in HSBC Arena, and the team attracted 15,644. That set a record for the franchise, which had been around for six years.  The previous record was set on Nov. 15, 1996, when the team played its first game in HSBC Arena, with the Detroit Rockers providing the opposition.

The game wasn't as successful. Matt Knowles of the Philadelphia Kixx scored four goals in a 13-11 victory.

The 6-foot-1 Knowles, good enough to be the National Professional Soccer League's Defender of the Year twice at the time, was the difference-maker. The game featured two ties and four lead changes.

The list of Buffalo goal scorers might bring back some memories. Doug Miller scored twice for Buffalo, which also got goals from Rudy Pikuzinski, Randy Pikuzinski, Jimmy Glenn, Doug Miller and Nassib Olabi.
