UB Going Green

When the $61 million engineering building is completed on the University at Buffalo's north campus in 2011, it will include a white, reflective roof, rain garden and even bathroom appliances that use less water than normal. Robert Shibley, senior adviser to  UB President John Simpson for campus planning and design, said the School of Engineering (http://www.eng.buffalo.edu/newbuilding/) is one of several green buildings in the university currently under construction or renovation.

Which makes us wonder: What other green buildings should we know about in the area? Why isn't there more green development in Wetsern New York? Do the benefits of going green outweigh any additional costs? What do you think of UB's efforts?

Dear Brian, please thank the NYS taxpayer for the following:
paying for the building, paying for upkeep of said building, paying for employees within that building, paying for the retirement of said employees within that building. Not bad for a building some have said UB does not need.

Who says they don't need another building?

When you have about 100 people working out of trailers instead of offices, you need another building.

Hank

UB really has not articulated "Going Green" as they need to. It's a bit of "doing something" to hang a sign up saying "Looky Here, we're in 'the club.'
As a university that says they have a vision, they are behind in the Green Revolution. But they are allowed to get away with such things because the media is like those at the Obama-Gibbs press conferences. It's just MAD (Mutual Admiration Society).
