$50 Million Man

It seems the Sabres'  Thomas Vanek is already struggling to live up to that seven-year, $50 million contract. After the loss in Montreal, Vanek admitted he needed to perform better. Then he was a minus-3 against Carolina and played just 12:33, a season low. That's a troubling sign, when a guy making that kind of money has his playing time slashed at the low point of a new season.

Lindy Ruff made a point of defending his defensive pair of Toni Lydman and Henrik Tallinder, who were minus-4 in Carolina. Ruff said sometimes you have to look elsewhere to blame. Hmmm.
