Remember the days when people talked about the Sabres as a team without stars? Judging by the latest NHL stats, this year's team might be reverting to its old identity. The Sabres have no one in the top 60 in scoring as of Wednesday. Jason Pominville, the leading scorer, has 31 points and is tied with several other players for 61st.
Thomas Vanek? He has 22 points. He's not in the top 100. You might expect more from a guy who is being paid $10 million this year -- tied for the most expensive player in the league with Jaromir Jagr and our old pal, Danny Briere. Vanek has one assist in his last 19 games. His production this season would be unacceptable at one-fifth the money.
