Reality sets in as Fox cancels "Anchorwoman"

Fox gave the reality show "Anchorwoman" the quick hook Thursday, only hours after the premiere of the series ended.

Lauren Jones, the former swimsuit model and WWE diva trying out as an anchor at a Texas station even though she doesn't have any journalistic credentials, was the immediate victim of poor ratings. Despite getting a good deal of publicity, the premiere bombed, proving that America isn't as dumb as many network executives might think.

In its place for the next three Wednesdays, Fox will air reruns of the Brad Garrett comedy series, "'Til Death."

Television is trash these days. I have given up on cable TV...I can't see why I should pay to see reruns and paid programing. No fresh new ideas, just half hearted copy cat shows. I don't have the patience to sit through 30 minutes of commercials to watch an 60 minute show. Ugh.

And the local news? Their ads are tiring also. All trying to out-do each other for the viewing public. They sound like carnival barkers ......."Thousands dead, tune in at 6:00"

Count me out!

Lauren Jones was just one of many bubble heads reading the "reality" entertainment news on FOX and other network news programs. Too bad; she was at least good for a laugh.

I find it somewhat amusing that she should have been fired when her vacuousness was only a matter of degrees more (or should I say less) than a plethora of similar bimbos and bimbers (Bimber is a male bimbo) blathering away without any pretense of journalistic expertise.

What ever happened to the informed bias of a Walter Cronkite or Walter Winchell. They at least had the talent to spout serious nonsense with a knowing and trusting demeanor. However, I think that they too would have bounced had they been a she with cleavage.

It's time to consider putting an end to "reality TV," and start producing quality shows, with quality performers... like the days of old.

Really, is it that important to preoccupy oneself with "who's the best singer," or "who's the best dancer," or "who's the best looking potential model?"

And you wonder why America is the object of ridicule and attack by other countries... just look at the trash that gets promoted as "acceptable" entertainment! A generation or so ago, those who tried to produce such junk would've been sent on the next bus home to Mama. How standards change... and not always for the better.
