WNY isn't Ready for Love

By Alan Pergament

Western New Yorkers weren’t “Ready for Love.”

The two-hour debut of NBC’s new dating series averaged a 2.8 rating on Channel 2 on Tuesday despite getting a 10.2 lead-in from NBC’s popular reality singing competition series “The Voice.”

The second hour of “Love” only averaged a 2.3 rating, which placed it fifth in its time slot here at 10 p.m. behind ABC’s “Body of Proof", Channel 4’s news on WNLO (5.1), CBS’ declining “Golden Boy” (4.3) on Channel 4 and Channel 2’s news on WUTV (2.6).

To put how much WNYers apparently hated “Love” in perspective, the 2.3 rating at 10 was considerably lower here than the series it replaced, “Smash.” “Smash” has been moved to Saturdays to accommodate “Love.” Of course, NBC is hoping that "Love" will attract more younger viewers than "Smash."

On the second night of the new local 10 p.m. news battle, Channel 4’s 10 O’Clock News almost doubled the rating of Channel 2 and was within one-tenth of a point of its average during the February sweeps when it tripled Channel 2’s rating on WNYO. The good news for Channel 2 is its 10 p.m. rating Tuesday was about 50 percent higher than it averaged on WNYO in February.
