WBEN radio is switching the time periods of talk show hosts Tom Bauerle and Sandy Beach next Monday.
Bauerle will move from his 9 a.m. to noon shift to the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. shift.
Beach will move from his 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. shift to 9 a.m. to noon.
Tim Wenger, the station's operations manager, said this afternoon, that the moves have been considered for some time and added that they better suit the lifestyles of the two talkers.
"Sandy is more of an early-in-the-morning person and Tom is a later-in-the-day person," said Wenger.
He added that the switch also plays to their strengths and he believes it is good for the station and its listeners.
"Sandy wants the first crack to be able to talk about stuff," explained Wenger. "Sandy is extremely opinionated and thought-provoking and, coming off the early news, he has the first crack at setting the agenda as far as opinion in the community."
Wenger added that the afternoons "have a lot of breaking news and that’s what Tom likes."
The decision was not ratings-driven, said Wenger. "Both shows are extremely strong for us," he said.
However, he said adding the extra hour to Bauerle's shift does have a ratings benefit because ratings are measured from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and it is better to have one show in the time period.
The extra hour will mean the end of WBEN's simulcast of the first 15 minutes of "The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley," which has been playing at 6:30 p.m.
