Fox Sports 1, the 24-hour sports network that eventually is expected to challenge the ESPNs, will be carried locally on Time Warner Cable when it launches this Saturday, it was announced this morning.
It will replace the Speed channel and be carried on 122 in standard definition and on channel 769 in high definition. It won't be on a sports tier, which means it won't cost subscribers anything additional to get it. At least for now.
In addition, TWC announced it will carry Fox Sports 2, which replaces Fuel on Saturday on channel 132. It will be on TWC's sports pass package, which has numerous sports channels and costs $8.99 a month.
The TWC deal with Fox also will result in the cable company carrying FXX, a new entertainment channel that is a spinoff of FX, when it premieres on Sept. 2. It will replace Fox Soccer, whose programming is expected to shift to the two new Fox Sports channels.
FiOS previously announced it is carrying Fox Sports 1.
