Some other vets missing from Broadcasters Hall of Fame

By Alan Pergament

This is what I’m thinking:

After I remarked a few days ago that I was surprised that Channel 7 anchor Keith Radford didn’t make the 2013 class of the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame, I got a message from someone in broadcasting about other veterans in the business who surprisingly haven’t made it yet.

I won't reveal his name because it was a private message. But the broadcaster had a point.

Besides Radford, here are some other surprises.

Channel 4 meteorologist Don Paul isn't in the Hall and he's been here for 29 years.

Channel 4 anchor Don Postles isn't in and he's been an anchor at all three local stations. He's spent his last 20 years at Channel 4 and was Irv Weinstein's co-anchor at Channel 7 before that and anchored at Channel 2 after a brief stint in Fresno, Calif.

John Murphy isn't in even though he has been the sports director at Channel 4 and Channel 7, been a sports talk show host on WGR and  WBEN and is the radio voice of the Buffalo Bills.

And Channel 7 meteorologist Mike Randall isn't in and he's been here for almost 30 years.

You could also make a case for Channel 2 anchor John Beard, who years ago would have been a good candidate for the annual slot that goes to a former Buffalo TV personality who made his mark elsewhere and still has Buffalo in his heart. After all, Beard was a star in Los Angeles before he came back to Buffalo.

Dick Stockton will do play-by-play, newcomer Ronde Barber will be the analyst and Kris Budden will be the sideline reporter for the Fox broadcast Sept. 15 when the Buffalo Bills host the Carolina Panthers. The game will have to be a sellout to be carried on WUTV, the local Fox affiliate. CBS’
Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorf work the Bills season opener with New England on Sept. 8.

Speaking of Hall of Fames, former Channel 7 General Manager Bill Ransom has been named to the New York State Broadcaster Association’s Hall of Fame and will be inducted with the class of 2013 in New York City on Nov. 7
