WGR's Bauch leaving; Some Bills games also air on WWKB

 By Alan Pergament

WGR radio is about to lose a good part of its sense of humor.

Greg Bauch is leaving the sports station to be a copywriter for Local Edge, said Greg Ried, the general manager of all local Entercom stations including WGR.

Local Edge is a Hearst Media Services company that is best known for The Talking Phone Book.

Bauch, who has provided numerous, humorous features for the station, also is a standup comedian who is scheduled to be one of the performers at the Helium Comedy Tent as part of the Music Is Art Festival this weekend.

In other radio news, some Buffalo Bills fans inside Ralph Wilson Stadium noticed that the 24-23 victory over Carolina Sunday was carried on WWKB as well as WGR.

Ried explained that was to give fans who listen in The Ralph a live feed since WGR was on delay to be synched with TV for those who turn down the TV sound to listen to play-by-play John Murphy and analyst Mark Kelso live.

He added the practice will only continue for sold-out games that will be televised.

On another football note involving radio, some University at Buffalo fans living in certain areas near its stadium have complained that they couldn’t get the broadcast of the Bulls’ 26-23 victory over Stony Brook Saturday on the new radio home, 1270, The Fan. The 1,000 watt station, which became UB's radio home after WECK-AM's contract ran out, acknowledges that the signal problem can happen in certain areas, as it can with any station.
