Bills get big TV rating; Sabres still sliding

By Alan Pergament

The Buffalo Bills rivalry with the Miami Dolphins might not be what it used to be, but you wouldn't know that by TV ratings for Sunday's game.

The Bills' 23-21 victory over the Dolphins had a 36.6 rating on Channel 4, making it the second highest-rated game of the season.

The only game this season with a bigger number was the Bills' road loss to the New York Jets, which had the advantage of having a late afternoon start that carried the game into prime time.

On the other hand, the slumping Buffalo Sabres' latest loss to Colorado on Saturday evening had a 4.8 rating, which is consistent with the team's slumping TV figures this season. The previous two games had ratings about 25 to 30 higher and the first game of the season had close to a 10 rating. However, Saturday games this season have had lower ratings than weekday games, partly because they've been played opposite portions of major league baseball playoff games.

Boston's clinching American League Championship Series victory over Detroit -- which ended around midnight -- had a 4.8 rating Saturday night on WUTV, the local Fox affiliate.
