WGRZ-TV announced today that the NBC affiliate will carry a weekly University at Buffalo sports program at 7:30 p.m Saturdays starting on Dec. 14.
In addition, it will carry some regular season football and men's basketball games on its main channel and up to 10 games on its digital channel, 2.2
The Dec. 14 weekly program premiere, which is titled the UB Football Bowl Preview Show, assumes that the 8-4 Bulls will be invited to a bowl game.
In a release, WGRZ said it is now the "Official Station of the UB Bulls" and will air 32, half-hour weekly shows devoted to UB Athletics. Replays of the Saturday night editions will air at 6 a.m. Sunday. Channel 2 added that the program will run through the basketball season and into the 2014 football campaign.
The Bobby Hurley Show with UB men's basketball coach and players will debut in January.
The release didn't say when Channel 2 will air regular season football and basketball games but they likely will air on weekend afternoons when NBC network programming isn't heavy. I would doubt that Channel 2 would preempt NBC prime time programming to carry UB games with the possible exception of Saturday night when NBC carries reruns.
However, it could air regular season games in the evening on its digital channel.
