Ch.7 news director leaving, replacement named

By Alan Pergament

Channel 7 General Manager Mike Nurse announced today that News Director Polly Van Doren is leaving for the same job in Dayton, Ohio and Western New York native Lisa Polster has been promoted from assistant news director to take her place.

A Williamsville South and Buffalo State College graduate, Polster was an assignment editor and 11 p.m. news producer at the station early in her career, left in 2006 to work in Kentucky and Maryland and returned to Channel 7 as executive news producer in 2009. She became assistant news director last year and officially takes over her new duties on Feb.3.

Van Doren became news director at Channel 7 about a year and a half ago. She has been unable to move the low-rated news station out of third place in the market but can hardly be faulted because station ownership hasn't given her the staff or resources to have much of an impact.
