In the unlikely event you aren't getting enough weather coverage from local news today, you might want to check the new Channel 2 digital 24-hour weather channel.
Storm Team 2 WeatherNation started around 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve on 2.2, the former home of Antenna TV. Antenna TV has moved to 2.3.
Time Warner Cable was supposed to carry WeatherNation simultaneously on digital channel 1245 and move Antenna TV to 1246. But that hasn't happened yet, though Channel 2 expects it to happen sometime tonight or early Friday. For now, Antenna TV remains on 1245.
But 2.2 and 2.3 are available to viewers with digital TVs that were purchased in the last five years or so and have digital tuners built in. However, the channels may have to be re-scanned.
In addition, the digital channels can be received over-the-air with older televisions that now have digital tuners.
Channel 2's weather team of Kevin O'Connell, Andy Parker, Jennifer Stanonis, Maria Genero and Kevin O'Neill supply recorded local reports six times an hour on the 5s.
However, the channel primarily focuses on national weather, which is big news today thanks to the weather system being called Hercules that is raising havoc in the Midwest and Northeast.
Considering what is going on nationally, Storm Team 2 WeatherNation couldn't have arrived at a better time.
All next week, Channel 2 plans to simulcast WeatherNation from 11:30 a.m. until noon after its regular 11 a.m. newscast.
