Ceretto gets behind Hamister proposal in downtown Niagara Falls

Assemblyman John Ceretto today announced his support for a proposed $25 million mixed-use development in downtown Niagara Falls that's been held up by three members of the City Council.

Ceretto, R-Lewiston, said the proposal from the Hamister Group for a five-story building on Rainbow Boulevard with a hotel, apartments and ground-level retail space would create jobs, improve the tax base, promote tourism and bring more cash into the city. The economic benefits are large enough that both sides should be able to come an agreement, Ceretto said.

“I hope to see the Hamister Group’s plan for a hotel in downtown Niagara Falls approved as quickly as possible. A hotel in downtown Niagara Falls will create jobs and promote tourism in an area that desperately needs economic development,” Ceretto said in a written statement. “The land proposed to be used for this project is currently a parking lot that brings little to no economic benefits to the people of Niagara Falls. We should use this land to put people to work and take another step toward improving the economic conditions in this community.”

Ceretto continued: "Though there are disagreements on the way to move forward with this project, everyone involved wants to see economic development and job creation in Niagara Falls. From that starting point, hopefully, all sides can see past their differences so we can get this project going. The people of Niagara Falls need to see this get approved,” said Ceretto.
