Elevator, maintenance barn planned under next year's school budget

The installation of an elevator at GJ Mann Elementary School and the construction of a maintenance barn behind the district's administration building will be proposed as part of next year's budget, officials said this week.

The total cost - an estimated $720,000 - would be paid for out of a $947,000 reserve the district's been holding onto for workers compensation costs, said Timothy Hyland, the district's administrator for school business services.

The district had previously planned on using about $500,000 from that reserve during the 2012-13 school year, but did not have to tap into it because of settlement of the casino cash dispute and additional savings seen by the district on benefit, Hyland said.

The elevator is estimated to cost $425,000, while the barn is pegged at about $295,000, he said.
