'Niagara Boom Days' event planned for Saturday

An annual celebration of spring in Niagara Falls is happening this weekend.

The LaSalle Yacht Club on Saturday will host "Niagara Boom Days," a night of food and dancing, with music from the Jazzline Band.

The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at the yacht club, 78 S. 68th St. There is no admission fee, but a donation of $5 is requested to help defray the evening's costs.

The "Boom Days" celebration usually marks the removal of the ice boom, which holds ice on Lake Erie throughout the winter. Because of the fierce winter and the amount of ice remaining on the lake, the boom is expected to still be in place during the festivities.
