Summer concert proposed for Old Falls Street with help of city funds

Mayor Paul A. Dyster's administration is proposing the city spend $40,000 for a concert to be held on Old Falls Street sometime in August and put on in conjunction with the Hard Rock Cafe.

The Hard Rock Cafe would provide marketing, security and staffing for the event, while the city's money would be used for "talent fees and staging and related costs." The city in previous years sponsored summer concerts on Old Falls Street. The date of the show has yet to be determined.

The City Council will consider the proposal when it meets Monday night.

Here's a look at some of the other items lawmakers will consider:

-A proposed three-year contract extension with the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp., contingent upon a three-year deal approved between the agency and Niagara County. The county Legislature is expected to vote on the extension May 20.

-A request from the Department of Public Works to create a greenskeeper position in the department's parks division. The salary would range from $44,569.72 to $56,195.99. If a current city employee is hired for the post, the starting salary is requested to be $54,185.38. To fund the post, the current position of horticulturist/arborist would be eliminated.

-A no-cost, month-to-month lease for downtown police substation in storefront in Sheraton at the Falls.

Here's the full agenda, and here's the additional documentation for agenda items.
