The red box on the above map is the spot on the rim of the Niagara Gorge the state wants as the site of a new Parks Police station. Site work had been ongoing for several weeks until the state announced yesterday construction had been suspended.
Critics of the project said the proposed location seemed to fly in the face of the decades-long push, which had recently become a victory, to remove part of the Robert Moses Parkway from the top of the gorge.
The city's Tourism Advisory Board, whose leadership was the most outspoken about the project, is holding its meeting at the project site today at 6 p.m.
