Plans for Popeyes restaurant back on in Niagara Falls

It was on, then it was off and now it's back on again.

A Popeyes Louisiana Chicken is coming to the corner of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Military Road.

The Benchmark Group of Amherst, which manages the Mil-Pine Plaza, has undertaken some parking lot renovations at the property over the last couple months.

The city has also issued a building permit for the Popeyes restaurant, which will sit in the southwest corner of the plaza whose largest tenant is Ollie's Bargain Outlet.

Construction is expected to be completed sometime in September, officials told the city Department of Code Enforcement.

The proposal first came to light last July, but was canceled in October after Benchmark declined to perform drainage improvements to the plaza required by the city.

Niagara Falls Water Board Executive Director Paul J. Drof said last week the company requested a new drainage plan, which the parties were working to get approved since last year.

A call placed last week to Benchmark was not returned.

A Harbor Freight Tools location also recently opened in the plaza, including in space formerly occupied by Mom's Family Restaurant.
