Venturing down Chippewa PAST Delaware is always a good idea, especially if you plan on heading to Papya and/or The Chocolate Bar.
The Southeast Asian cuisine and delicious drinks explained why Papya was so busy mid-week, and the Cheryl Ferris Trio provided relaxing background music that accentuated the trendy, jazzy feel of the place.
We could have stayed there all night if it wasn't for the lure of dessert-like martinis next door at The Chocolate Bar. Everything there is soooo yummy. It might break your diet plans or even your bank account (compared to most places in Bflo) but it's worth it.
If you don't like these establishments for one reason or another you can always cross the street and head to Bada Bing.
So this is nothing new, but I love going out in Allentown. It's always a good time, no matter what you're in the mood for.
Some of Buffalo's best food can be found here, and the bars are the best. From the vast array of beers at Colter Bay to the Vodka Tree at Scarlet, there's definitely something for everyone.
Hanging out toward the back at Stillwater is fun when there's live music and you can dance under the "stars." If you like karaoke then head to Frizzy's on certain nights. Gabriel's Gate is one of the most chill and comfortable places in all of Buffalo. And we can't forget Hardware, Sample, Mother's and all of the other amazing places in the Allentown District. They're part of what makes Buffalo a fun place to live and experience.
Chippewa is always interesting and usually a great time, and Elmwood is great, too, but Allentown still has that hidden secret feel which makes it so special. Some of the places are comparable, or better than, bars and restaurants in major cities. And the prices are still low- one of the greatest perks about this area.
Someone commented about Buffalo being a place for entrepreneurs and that instead of waiting for jobs to come, we should create our own. Most definitely. The economy here may not be perfect for some companies and businesses, but it is ripe for starting something of your own.
Use your talents and knowledge. It will be less expensive for start up here than in another city. The only thing is if you're thinking of starting a restaurant, it better be really, really good because there's some serious competition.
You could always do a franchise, too. Even though there a lot of Tim Horton's, I know for a fact that they still want to expand in the Buffalo area.
Moral of the story: we can't just sit and complain about the lack of jobs. So maybe we can create some.
I, too, want this blog to be an opportunity for us to share ideas on how to get involved in the Greater Buffalo community.
There are a lot of grassroots groups in Buffalo and volunteer opportunities. Let's get a list going.
I volunteer at a place called Compass House. It's a temporary shelter for runaway youth ages 12-17. It's a great place to spend time if you need internship hours, but to just volunteer for the heck of it it provides an awesome opportunity, too. Check out www.compasshouse.org for more info and volunteer requirements.
I really do love Buffalo. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here. It's so good to see people sticking up for our beloved city. What I find is that it's often the citizens who diss it the most, so to see the passionate responses defending Buffalo and its Sabres is encouraging. I just want us to take that passion and manifest it into Buffalo's full potential.
I spend my days and nights taking advantage of what Buffalo has to offer. I swear! The Square last night was fabulous...I love seeing true "moe heads" dancing next to men in suits who just left the office. The atmosphere downtown on Thursday nights is unbeatable. Saturday nights on Chippewa don't even compare come summertime.
So sometimes I get a little feisty, but it's only to get people to see how much Buffalo means to us and how legit it really is. Enjoy the weekend.
Briere gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In other news, the economy is pathetic, the beaches polluted, the governent crooked, underage drinking is rampant and there's still just 1 Peace Bridge.
But I'm doing really well! (In case you wondered.)
